Twitter Dog Logo: Elon Musk has done it again – he’s caused a stir on social media with a simple icon change. As you can see from the image, the Twitter icon in the app has been replaced by the Doge character, the same symbol for Dogecoin, a meme-based crypto currency that Musk has been a big supporter of in the past. While no one knows for sure why this change was made, some have speculated that it could be an April Fool’s Day joke, just a couple of days late.
For his part, Musk says that the idea was proposed to him some time ago. But the move raises questions about the broader impacts on the perception of Elon as both a genius and a business leader. While Musk has a lot of fans who praise his every move, some investors and others associated with Tesla and SpaceX have concerns about his erratic management style on Twitter.
Perhaps this is how he’s always run things at his other companies, and we’re just now seeing some of these off-the-cuff decisions in public. This could be more problematic when it comes to self-driving cars and rockets. Nevertheless, the important thing seems to be that Elon is entertaining himself, even as the price of the company dips by more than 50%, with revenue declining at a similar rate.

One possible reason for the Doge icon on Twitter could be related to the $258 billion racketeering lawsuit that Elon is currently facing over his support for Dogecoin. The plaintiffs allege that Musk used his massive Twitter presence to artificially inflate the value of the cryptocurrency, of which Musk potentially owns up to 28% of the entire coin listing. Some have suggested that, maybe, with the case back in the headlines this week, Musk is looking to dilute any negative coverage by flooding the zone with alternative stories related to ‘Elon’ and ‘Dogecoin’ instead.

Despite the speculations and conspiracy theories, the icon change did not last long. Twitter reverted back to its traditional bird logo two days later, without providing any explanation for the change. Whether this was a harmless prank or a strategic move, one thing is for sure – Elon Musk’s Twitter account will continue to be a source of entertainment and controversy for his millions of followers.
